How The Sun’s Rays Work For Us

Throughout our childhood, countless ants & dried leaves suffered a fate typically reserved for science fiction movies… Many were scorched as a result of our curiosity (or boredom) while exploring the outside world with a magnifying glass. We recall pivoting the lens just so, allowing the full fury of the sunlight to unleash its terror on those picnic-ruining invaders.

Then we grew up and realized that we could put the Sun’s rays to work for us beyond harming ants or, more appropriately, using traditional photovoltaic panels. Called , these facilities typically focus the reflection of the Sun’s rays onto a centralized heat exchanger that heats a fluid to very high temperatures. This fluid is circulated through pipes so that it can transfer its heat to water, causing it to boil, thereby producing steam. The steam is then capable of spinning turbines, which in turn spin generators, producing pollution-free electricity.
