Some things never go out of style and hydroelectric power is one of them.
Utilizing the immense power of moving water with the force of gravity ensures this centuries-old technology is still viable as a renewable energy source today. Continuous development of both the technology & engineering responsible for generating electricity in this manner has all but guaranteed its existence for centuries to come.
The underlying principle is quite simple. Flowing water from a river is guided through a channel known as a penstock which allows the water to spin a giant turbine before being returned to the river. The turbine is connected to a generator which spins and makes electricity. That’s all there is to it!
While large-scale dam projects like the Hoover Dam aren’t built any longer due to their impacts on the overall river ecosystem, their need to supply clean, seemingly limitless power to residents of the west ensured their place in history.
The Coalition for Responsible Equitable Economic Development (CREED LA) proudly supports environmentally-responsible construction projects throughout Los Angeles that not only have a positive impact on the local community, but support LA’s working families as well.
CREED LA fights to ensure that developers pay fair wages to all the hard working construction professionals throughout the industry while simultaneously providing them with quality health care, continued training, and trustworthy retirement plans.
