Maglev Trains Enable Rapid Transport Over Long Distances

Anyone who has ever experimented with magnets became familiar with the fact that like poles repel one another. Furthering that concept, electromagnets create magnetic fields through the application of electricity. This allows engineers to explore viable large-scale uses for this scientific principle, such as the ability to use electromagnets to levitate and propel trains.

Maglev trains offer numerous advantages compared to traditional trains.

The most obvious is that since there is no physical contact between the vehicle and its track, energy-sapping rolling friction is eliminated. This allows incredibly high speeds (the Japanese achieved 374 mph) to be attained, enabling a trip from NYC to Boston to occur in a little over an hour… Now that’s putting the “rush” back in “rush hour”!

Unfortunately, research & development, installation, and maintenance costs are quite prohibitive, meaning the proliferation of maglev trains around the globe will remain a rarity for quite some time.

The Coalition for Responsible Equitable Economic Development (CREED LA) proudly supports environmentally-responsible construction projects throughout Los Angeles that not only have a positive impact on the local community, but support LA’s working families as well.

CREED LA fights to ensure that developers pay fair wages to all the hard working construction professionals throughout the industry while simultaneously providing them with quality health care, continued training, and trustworthy retirement plans.
