It is hard to imagine a time when everything we needed was provided by nature. The materials we used to build and insulate our homes came from sources such as moss and thatch. As hard as it may be to believe, these all-natural materials were amazingly effective at performing the duties now reserved for synthetic materials such as fiberglass and asphalt. With the environmental movement stronger than ever, the push to incorporate more eco-friendly, renewable resources throughout the construction industry has led to some architects & engineers reassessing the feasibility of these centuries-old materials.

Indeed, organic materials such as cotton, wool, and even commercially-grown hemp(!) possess the R-values necessary to keep homes and businesses in many parts of the country warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The appeal of these three examples is they lack compounds which may cause indoor respiratory issues during construction and pollution issues once thrown away.

The Coalition for Responsible Equitable Economic Development (CREED LA) proudly supports environmentally-responsible construction projects throughout Los Angeles that not only have a positive impact on the local community, but support LA’s working families as well.

CREED LA fights to ensure that developers pay fair wages to all the hard working construction professionals throughout the industry while simultaneously providing them with quality health care, continued training, and trustworthy retirement plans.
