Thanks to Zero Landfill, There’s No Need to be “Down in the Dumps”!

Building automobiles of any type is among the least eco-friendly things one can imagine. The multitude of industrial processes, such as stamping, pressing, machining, and welding create the potential for various pollutants to harm the environment. Indeed, when one follows the path from initial mining for raw materials to finished product, it’s easy to see why this is the case. Yet, thanks to Subaru North America, something amazing occurred… They devised and implemented a concept known as Zero Landfill.

Over a decade ago, Subaru’s plant in Lafayette, Indiana began a program where 100% of its manufacturing waste is either recycled or turned into electricity, not relegated to occupying local landfills. This monumental task is the result of continual monitoring and tracking of not only the materials used, but also the methods for how those materials are used… Reduce, Reuse, Recycle on an industrial scale!
