Architects and urban planners are coming up with creative ways to preserve green spaces in the world’s cities.

Approximately half of the world’s population of 7.6 billion people lives in cities, a staggering sum indeed!

Given the many benefits green spaces provide – such as filtering pollutants and providing some much welcomed aesthetic beauty – architects and urban planners are devising creative ways to help keep these oases of green present in our ever-growing cities.

Among the most common techniques is simply to earmark a small parcel of land, amounting to an acre or so, and planting trees, shrubs, and perennials. Adding some benches and a walkway allows people to find a comfortable respite from the concrete jungle they’re located in.

More ambitiously, vertical forests are beginning to take root (ha!) in various cities. Designed in the same manner as vertical farms, but predominantly residential in nature, the presence of a living facade means that the exterior of the building continually evolves, changes colors, and offers local residents a uniquely changing view.

The Coalition for Responsible Equitable Economic Development (CREED LA) proudly supports environmentally-responsible construction projects throughout Los Angeles that not only have a positive impact on the local community, but support LA’s working families as well.

CREED LA fights to ensure that developers pay fair wages to all the hard working construction professionals throughout the industry while simultaneously providing them with quality health care, continued training, and trustworthy retirement plans.
